Another New Year

So what? Forget making resolutions and living by a calendar of someday. Don't buy new clothes when you've lost 10 pounds-- if you want new clothes, then get beautiful today! If you want to be a writer, sit down with a pen and paper and start writing. If you want to be published, surf the internet now and send emails to publishers. Send out 100 submissions now. I lay you odds that at least one will be accepted.

Don't wait for another new year to live your life. Life's too short, too precious, ends all too soon. Take a look at the offerings we have this month. You'll find many folks whose lives have been changed by tragedy. They changed and began following their heart once they had no other choice. I did that. It took the death of my son for me to start breaking the rules of academia and living my life today instead of hoping a university press would publish me someday, instead of hoping I could get tenure someday, instead of waiting to live life someday.

Take heart today, look to the writers here for some inspiration, find the cd titled WIRED by Redperl and listen to it. Send us a submission here at KotaPress. Find a poem in this month's issue that inspires you, then send a note off to the poet. Connect with them. Much as the media would have you believe, life is not about competition and cut throat. There is room for all of us this new year! Life is about resource and connection. I challenge you to figure that out today, right now, instead of waiting for tragedy to show you the way!
