Losing
Layla Availability
So not only did they screen Losing Layla at MISS Conference 2004, but they also announced that filmmaker and Layla's mom Vanessa Gorman will be presenting at MISS Conference 2005. Many of us on the Kota Yahoo Discussion Group were strongly affected (for the second & third time for some of us) by Vanessa's filming of Layla's birth and death. Others on the Discussion Group who were not at the conference, expressed frustration at not having the film made available to them unless they had cable tv. So one member sent the information below about how to get a copy of the film.
Unfortunately, it seems to be distributed only as an "educational" tool and is therefore, rather pricey for the vhs -- doesn't even seem to be available in dvd. Very sad that so many parents will be prohibited from access to this film because of the "educational" method of distribution. While it is awesome to see it being marketed in this way so that our "professional" caregivers will find this in their academic training, it is very sad that the academic segregation will exclude so many. We heard from many in our discussion group who expressed a wish to have this film as readily available at Blockbuster as something like "Bowling for Columbine" is now available. We can only hope that the strides Michael Moore is making for theater and dvd release of documentary film will rub off on the distribution of Losing Layla!!!!!
