Resources > Compassionate Care Networking Group

From Sarah Slack
The TEARS Foundation

Compassionate Care is a new group dedicated to providing newly bereaved parents who experience pregnancy or infant loss the most compassionate care as possible. The goal of this group is to bring together all providers; professionals, businesses, medical personnel, social workers, funeral home staff, and others who either provide a service for bereaved families, or come in contact with these families. Networking will provide all professionals the awareness of resources that are available to families, which will allow grieving parents to have access to each resource they may need at the time of their loss.

Compassionate Care will meet once a month, the first Tuesday of each month at 1pm at Café Diallo in University Place. Each month, there will be a speaker from one of the organizations that is involved with pregnancy/infant loss. This group is free and we encourage you to spread the word to other providers and organizations within the community who deal in some way with pregnancy/infant loss to attend. The success of this group is dependant on your attendance and willingness to bring our resources together and provide newly bereaved parents the most compassionate care that they deserve. Mark your calendars now:

2008 Schedule (so far...)

  • Jan. 8 -- Kathleen from Post Partum Support of Washington. Kathleen will address issues related to post partum depression when it relates to pregnancy/infant loss. It's enough to face the grief and loss of a baby, but when there are chemical & hormonal issues also involved, it can be even more complicated. When is it necessary for a mother to receive medications? What support groups and services does Kathleen's organization offer to bereaved families? Come out and learn with us! Gini Dryer-Dow from Weeks Dryer Mortuary is our funeral home director to speak for this month.
  • Feb. 5th -- Susan Pfiefer: Chair of the Pierce County Child Death Review Board. Susan will discuss the child death review board and how the process work and be available to answer any questions. Kitty Scott from House of Scott funeral home in Tacoma is our funeral home owner to speak for this month.
  • March 4th -- Pending Bill Straley from Mt. View Funeral home and cemetery will be our funeral director to speak this month.
  • Other upcoming speakers will be the new Pierce County medical examiner, two of the researchers from the health department who put together the infant/fetal death statistics for the State of Washington, Soulumination photography for parents who have a sick or dying child, and we will have our lobbyist back who was not able to make the December meeting.
