By Jen Mountney

Grieving mother seeks sensitive, compassionate friend to listen.

This position requires an abundance of love, compassion, sensitivity and patience, a willingness to listen openly without interruption or judgment, as well as a willingness to try on the ugly worn moccasins of grief and walk around in them periodically.

Previous experience in grief and loss is not necessary.

Friend should have easy access to tears, feelings, and tissues.

The ability to give good hugs when needed is a definite requirement for this position.

Those who feel they have answers or a quick fix for the pain need not apply. This position does not require the ability to give spur-of-the-moment sermons (otherwise known as preaching) nor does it require the guilt inducing tactics of a judge and jury. Anyone applying for this position who intends to use it for the sole purpose of being insensitive, condemning or a know it all will be dismissed immediately.

Those interested in this position should write, call, visit or e-mail the grieving mother immediately and continue to do so regularly. A friend who remembers and recognizes the significant dates (birthday, death day, due date, etc.) will be especially cherished.
